Nokia N9 - User eXperience Redefined
n9main
The N9 UI is truly different and appears to be user friendly. Navigating through the 3 views (Events, Apps and Open/Recently used Apps) only with a Swipe gesture is good. The UI clearly exhibits the multi tasking capabilities of the phone by the intuitive horizontal/vertical swipe gesture.
Swipe
Lock Screen
Unlocking the phone or viewing the phone in standby (low power mode) by tapping the screen is nice and could be one of the reasons for not including any hard key/button in the front. Notifications are provided in the Lock screen. Swiping the notification unlocks the phone and opens the notification. Wallpaper can be set on the Lock screen. It would be good if the foreground colour can be automatically adjusted based on the Wallpaper.
  Views
The interface of the Events view looks nice with a black background. Notifications are also included this view. The Apps view appears to be similar to the view provided by the leading handheld OS companies. The Open apps view is one of the best features of the phone and helps users navigate with ease. The large preview of the recently used apps with an option to zoom in & out using pinch gesture is nice. Closing running apps is made easier with the large preview.
  Other Features
Quick Launch bar is provided. This can be launched either by a swipe gesture or by pressing the screen for a certain duration. This can be initiated from the Lock screen or from any of the views.

The dialler is beautiful with a light grey background. On selecting the keys, the selection is highlighted in green and makes the phone stand out. It would have been good if the contacts view had an option to include frequent contacts. The design of the interface to set alarm is extremely good and different.
